Project HERO (Helpline for Emergency Response Operations) aims to provide the first real-time updated information system about emergency medical resources in Mumbai; It will create a central place to get information about the nearest emergency care facility with a vacant bed or blood supplies that will help save precious minutes.
Why is HERO essential?
Mumbai has over one lakh emergencies per year.
More than 50 deaths occur per day due to heart attacks and other medical emergencies.
Two out of five people in Mumbai are likely to have a heart attack.
In 2008, there were less than 40,000 hospital beds in Mumbai for a population of 18 Million. Of this ~ 10% are ICU beds, yielding about 4000 ICU beds;
thus leading to a scarcity.
There are only 400 neonatal intensive care beds in Mumbai whereas the requirement is for 2000.
For HERO, our current goal is to raise $50,000 to conduct the pilot in Sion Hospital and also to build up for the next phase of implementation in Mumbai.
